Maritime Construction has opened a Global Wind Organisation training facility in Manchester.
The company said it is the city’s first dedicated GWO training centre and comes as the UK targets a quadrupling of offshore wind capacity under the Clean Power 2030 commitment.
Maritime Construction said the facility is designed to support new entrants seeking to upskill and experienced professionals needing to retrain.
The company said Manchester was selected for its growth targets, investment in green industries and strong pool of professionals, while its central location and transport links provide accessibility for delegates across the region.
Maritime Construction said the centre features modern classrooms, advanced safety equipment and a purpose-built indoor training pool engineered for the GWO Sea Survival module.
Alex White said: “Our mission is to empower the workforce that will drive the UK’s clean energy transition. With the ambitious national target for renewable expansion, it is essential that we provide accessible, high-quality training opportunities to ensure the industry has the talent it needs.”
The company said the centre will deliver all five core GWO modules and aims to become a hub for workforce development as the region expands its offshore wind activity.
Andrew Graham said: “To see this centre come to fruition is not only a great thing for us as a company but for the people of Manchester and the renewable energy sector. It will create jobs and help to bridge the skills shortage within the wind industry. Our centre has been developed to replicate as much as practicably possible the environment that course participants will come across in the field. Using state of the art, new equipment used by the leading wind turbine companies. We primarily will be running wind energy safety and technical courses, but along side these will be offering multiple industry relevant courses such as PPE inspection, fire warden and mental health first aid.”
Maritime Construction said the facility is open for enrolment.
