The first wind turbine at the EnBW’s 960MW He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the German North Sea produced its initial kilowatt-hour yesterday evening and delivered it to the grid, according to EnBW.

The company said 27 of the site’s 64 Vestas 15MW turbines have been installed so far, with full commissioning scheduled by summer 2026.

“The first kilowatt-hour produced by our He Dreiht offshore wind farm marks a significant milestone for EnBW,” EnBW board member for sustainable generation infrastructure Peter Heydecker said.

He said the 960MW project is currently Germany’s largest offshore wind farm.

Nils de Baar, president of Vestas Northern and Central Europe, said: “The 15 MW turbine is a world first in terms of technology, setting new standards in offshore wind power.”

EnBW said a single rotation of the rotor on the 15MW unit can supply the equivalent of four households with electricity for a day.
The developer said internal cabling was completed in August and connected to the TenneT-managed converter platform for transmission to shore.

EnBW added that He Dreiht can generate enough electricity for around 1.1 million households and is being built without state funding about 85 kilometres northwest of Borkum and 110 kilometres west of Heligoland.

A consortium of Allianz Capital Partners, AIP and Norges Bank Investment Management holds 49.9% of the project, with investment totalling €2.4bn.
