BW Ideol Projects Company has taken a minority equity stake in Eoliennes Mediterranee Grand Large, the company responsible for the Mediterranee Grand Large floating offshore wind farm.

The 15% investment follows several years of collaboration among BW Ideol, EDF power solutions and Maple Power in the study of floating foundations for French offshore wind tenders, according to the companies.

They said the transaction marks a new milestone in the technological partnership and strengthens the project’s industrial footing.
The project will benefit from BW Ideol’s floating wind expertise as it progresses toward construction, with EDF power solutions and Maple Power set to select the floater technology.

Awarded under France’s sixth offshore wind tender in December 2024, the 250MW project is located 25km off the Mediterranean coast and is expected to supply electricity for nearly 450000 people.

EDF power solutions and Maple Power said they have developed several French offshore wind farms including Saint-Nazaire, Fecamp and Provence-Grand-Large, and are building Calvados while developing Dunkirk and Manche Normandie.

BW Ideol is already a shareholder in the EolMed and Buchan projects and owns the Floatgen demonstrator, which has operated since 2018.

“We are pleased to welcome BW Ideol Projects Company as a new shareholder,” EDF power solutions director of marine renewable energie France Aymeric Ducrocq said.

“This equity investment highlights the strength of the project and the growing maturity of the floating offshore wind sector in France,” Ducrocq said.

“We welcome BW Ideol Projects Company as a shareholder of Eoliennes Mediterranee Grand Large,” Maple Power president George Walley said.

“We are delighted to expand our collaboration with EDF power solutions and Maple Power by becoming a shareholder of Eoliennes Mediterranee Grand Large,” BW Ideol and BW Ideol Projects Company president Paul de la Gueriviere said.

“With over 15 years of experience across multiple projects, we are well positioned to help ensure the successful development of this initiative,” de la Gueriviere said.
