Buss Terminal Eemshaven has celebrated the successful completion of its role on foundations handling for RWE’s Thor and Nordseecluster A offshore wind farms.
The company it executed two full-scale projects at the same time, with the NSC A project involving 45 monopiles including secondary steel and the Thor project involving another 72 monopiles.
The company added each monopile weighed more than 1,500 tons and reached lengths of up to 96 meters.
In total, Buss Terminal Eemshaven said it completed 325 monopile transports, moving more than 500,000,000 kilograms throughout the project.
All secondary steel was handled using Buss-owned equipment, while storage on site was facilitated with the help of 12 dune sets and concrete monopile storage blocks, according to the company.
Buss Terminal Eemshaven said Mammoet performed all load-ins and transports using SPMTs from both Buss Ports and Mammoet, supported by specially engineered hydraulic saddles designed for Buss to ensure safe monopile transport.
Installation at sea was carried out by two vessels, with Les Alizés used for the Thor project and Boreas, described as a brand-new vessel completing its first-ever assignment, used for the NSC A project, according to the company.
A third vessel, the Aeolus, installed the secondary steel for the NSC A project, Buss Terminal Eemshaven said.
The company said the preparation and execution of these operations involved multiple Buss Ports departments and entities working seamlessly together.
Buss Terminal Eemshaven said the entire project was completed in a safe and controlled manner without any incidents or accidents.
The company said it extended its appreciation to all partners involved RWE, Groningen Seaports, Jan De Nul Group, Van Oord, and all subcontractors for the cooperation that made this milestone possible.
